A brief history of Doc Johnson

Doc Johnson is the largest pleasure products manufacturer in America, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016. Founded in 1976 by Ron Braverman, it consisted of 9 employees in a 1,500 square foot factory. Today by comparison it has family of over 500 team members housed across multiple buildings on a campus more than 250,000 square feet, with a catalogue of over 2,000 products. Let’s take a look at some of the key milestones along the way:

  • In 1980 Doc Johnson revolutionised the market with the idea of moulding the body parts of adult stars to create lifelike toys.
  • In the 1990s the Original Pocket Rocket® & iVibe Rabbit™ were introduced, and have now become household names.
  • 2010 saw the brand expand their factory and establish their own health grade, American made Silicone Department.
  • In 2014 Doc Johnson debuted the award winning ‘Ask the Doc’ show on Playboy Radio which has achieved huge success with record-breaking viewership.

product history Doc Johnson

Throughout the years there have been huge shifts in the industry, but some classic favorites have been in play since Doc Johnson’s early days. Products such as The Realistic™ Cock, Motion Lotion™, The Original Pocket Rocket®, and The Realistic Kong™ are all available, albeit with some packaging makeovers and little tweaks to stay in times with technology, but ultimately providing the same high quality pleasure they did when first released.

That’s not to say that Doc Johnson isn’t regularly bringing out brand new products; in fact originality and innovation are at the heart of the brand, with developments such as TRUSKYN™ ™ (a pure health grade silicone that emulates the feel of real skin) allowing the business to create unique products that feel realistic inside and out.

It’s this forward thinking that leaves us all excited to see where the brand will be in the next 40 years, and wherever that is you can guarantee it will be making their customers feel great every step of the way.
